A modern car reacts to a complete battery discharge very differently from an older vehicle. Modules can lose adaptations, enter protection mode, and the access system may refuse to authorize a start. The issue is usually data, not the new battery itself.
What happens when power is lost
As voltage drops, control units store faults and reset learned values: throttle position, gearbox adaptations and steering-angle calibration. Some return after a few kilometres; others require a diagnostic procedure.

Read every module, not only the engine: gateway, comfort, immobilizer and BCM.
Check power and grounds
Measure under load: a weak ground can mimic a failed control unit.
Register the new battery
Cars with energy-management systems need the replacement battery registered.
Adaptations and final scan
Restore learned values and scan the vehicle again before handover.
When DIY is not enough
If the starter turns but the engine still will not start, the cause is often key authorization. This requires manufacturer data: without it the module will accept neither a key nor a new configuration.
