Emissions systems can cause trouble, but not every fault has the same solution. Good diagnostics distinguishes between cleaning, regeneration, electrical repair and replacement of a genuinely defective component.
A saturated DPF may be caused by short journeys, an inaccurate sensor, a stuck EGR valve, an open thermostat or a combustion fault. Forcing regeneration without correcting the cause can make matters worse.
AdBlue systems also involve pumps, heaters, injectors, NOx sensors and software. Replacing the entire tank is not always the first or only answer.
